Cancer Drug Recall

In This Article

Drug manufacturer, Hospira Inc., has issued a nationwide recall of four of its injectable cancer drugs due to glass particles that were embedded at the neck of the vial.

The recalled drugs include Carboplatin, Cytarabine, Paclitaxel and Methotrexate. They were distributed nationwide to both wholesalers and directly to customers.

According to the FDA, there is potential for the drugs to come in contact with the embedded glass particles and that the particles may become dislodged into the solutions.

Symptoms that a patient was injected with solutions mixed with the glass particles include:

  • Bleeding
  • Bruising
  • Inflammation
  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Chest pain
  • Respiratory symptoms

The cause of the issue is attributed to a supplier glass defect. Hospira is arranging for the return and replacement of all recalled defective products.
