General Motors Recalls Cadillac, Buick and Chevy Cars over Safety Concerns

In This Article

General Motors Co. is recalling many of its newer Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet models for issues that could compromise passenger safety in the event of a collision.

The auto manufacturer’s Cadillac luxury division is recalling specific XTS large sedans from the 2013 model year due to problems with their rear-seat head restraints. The head restraints may not lock into the upright position after being folded forward, which could cause the head rests to be positioned too low according to federal safety standards, resulting in an increased risk of neck injury.

The Cadillac recall affects 12,626 cars built between Oct. 12, 2011 and Aug. 30, 2012.

In a separate filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, GM is recalling certain 2012 Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic cars due to malfunctioning driver-side frontal air bags.

The airbags have a part called a shorting bar that may intermittently touch the air bag terminals. If the bar and terminal come in contact during an accident, the bag may not deploy when need, thus increasing the risk of injury.

This recall affects 2,949 vehicles.
