When no traffic is present, the light will not turn green. When heavy traffic is present, the light will remain green for a longer period of time. Traffic activated lights serve to predict congested intersections and keep the flow of traffic at optimal levels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Timed Lights<\/strong> These are the least costly types of traffic lights, often used in smaller communities throughout Alabama.
